Last September 1, Instagram suffered from a data breach, and that unknown hacker stolen personal data/details from more than 6 million Instagram accounts.
This August 31 The Hacker News reported:
Just yesterday, we reported that Instagram had patched a critical API vulnerability that allowed the attacker to access phone numbers and email addresses for high-profile verified accounts.
However, Instagram hack now appears to be more serious than initially reported.
The hacker launched this website, an Instagram lookup service, where you can search and look for the detail of the 6 million IG Accounts that he stolen for $10 per account.
The company had already notified all of its verified users of the issue via emails and also encouraged them to be cautious if they receive any suspicious or unrecognised phone call, text message, or email.
With email addresses and phone numbers in hand, the hacker's next step could be used the stolen info in tandem with social engineering techniques to gain access to verified Instagram accounts and post on their behalves in order to embarrass them.
IG users are very highly recommended to enable the two-factor authentication of their accounts, always be cautious and use different/hard passwords to robust their account security.
Avoid clicking untrusted websites or suspicious links you receive from the attachments of your emails without verifying where it came from or is it safe. Hackers can stole your personal or financial data from the suspicious links and attachments from the emails that is not verified safe.
